Technology. A few weeks ago when I was in Orland we were fortunate enough to be invited to attend an Orlando Magic basketball game by our hosts, who also have a suite at this arena. More significantly we were given a tour of the technology that is used in this new arena. It is simply amazing. There are 1,100 flat screen televisions all through the complex and all of these are linked to a control centre in the broadcast centre in the “nosebleed” section of the building. Each screen can show its own set of ads or they can be coordinated with all of the other technology such as the scoreboard and the message rings around the arena and show the same message. If we had even stated just a few short years ago that this could be accomplished I am certain we would have been skeptical. The picture quality is as good as you would ever see – almost lifelike. Oh – the Magic did win the game.
