The monkey break. Last week Karen and I were in the rainforest on the Osa Peninsula in Southwest Costa Rica. It was a fantastic experience to be close to nature and the myriad of plants, animals, and birds that populate this wonderful piece of our planet. We also experimented with yoga as well as making many hikes through the jungle with a guide so we could experience it all firsthand. During one of these yoga sessions the instructor (who also happens to own the lodge) stopped and said time for a monkey break! We moved to the front of the platform (which is at the highest point of the lodge at the top of a hill overlooking a large valley and looking to the Pacific Ocean) and watched as a troop of spider monkeys, including babies on their mother's backs, transited across part of the valley not 75 feet from all of us. It was a unique experience. Not something any of us see every day!
